Bakema, Jakob B. (Dutch architect, 1914-1981)
|
Note: Born 8 March 1914, Jakob B. Bakema studied at the Rijkuniversiteit, Groningen (1932-1937), the Academie van Bouwkunst, Amsterdam (1937-1941), and at the Technische Hogeschool Delft (1939-1940). Over the course of his career, he worked in the offices of Cornelis van Eesteren (1937-1941), Willem van Tijen and H.A. Maaskant (1941), and in the municipal housing department in Rotterdam (1945). He was the principal architect, along with J.H. van den Broek, in the firm Architectengemeenschap van den Broek en Bakema (1948-1981). He was a professor of architecture at Technische Hogeschool Delft, Netherlands (1963-80), and a professor at universities in Germany, Austria, and in the United States. He was the co-editor of Forum, Hilversum, Netherlands (1959-64) and a Member of the Board, Architectura et Amicitia, Amsterdam, 1965-1967. He was a member of CIAM (1947-81) in which he was also Member of the Board (1953-59). Jacob Berend Bakema worked with J.M. Stocla on the Pendrecht Housing Estate project, Rotterdam, Netherlands, in 1949. He died 20 February 1981. |
