Griffin, Walter Burley (American architect and city planner, 1876-1937, active in the United States, Australia, and India)
|
Note: Walter Burley Griffin attended the University of Illinois from 1895 to 1899 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture in 1899. Griffin worked with Frank Lloyd Wright at his Oak Park studio in Illinois from 1900 to 1905. In 1905 he started his own independent business and worked as an architect, landscape architect and town planner. Griffin was the landscape architect and the construction supervisor of the pergola of the Darwin D. Martin House project (1902-1904). Griffin moved to Australia in 1913 where he designed and built the City of Canberra and Castlecray. In addition, he designed various homes and public buildings in Australia. In 1936 he moved to Lucknow, India, where he designed and built the University of Lucknow. He also received commissions for the design and construction of houses, palaces and libraries in India but died before he could complete the projects. American architect. |
