Markelius, Sven (Swedish architect and urban planner, 1889-1972)
|
Note: Markelius attended the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm from 1909 to 1913. From 1913-1915, he continued his studies in Stockholm at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, then began working in the practice of Erik Lallerstedt. He developed an interest in urban planning and was one of the founding members of CIAM (Congrès Internationaux d'Architecture Moderne) in 1928. The works he designed, such as the Helsingborg Concert Hall, are prime examples of Swedish Functionalism. He later designed the Social and Economic Council meeting room at the United Nations in New York City, and was Director of City Planning in Stockholm from 1944-1954. Swedish architect.
