Note: Located on an upper course of the Po river in Monferrato hills. The Ligurian name of the Po river was "Bodincus," thus the ancient name of the town, "Bodincomagus." The site was settled in ancient times; the modern town was founded in the 8th century; it was ruled by the marquisate of Monferrato in the 10th century; it went to the Gonzaga family in 1536; it was disputed between France and Spain, then went to Savoy in 1707.
