Note: The town of Friedrichshafen is located on north shore of Lake Constance in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwestern Germany. The site was settled by at least the 9th century and came to be known as Buchhorn. Close by was the monastery of Hofen, dating from the 11th century. Friedrich I of Württemburg united the town and the then-suppressed monastery in the 19th century and created the new town of Friedrichshafen. A Zeppelin factory was established here, which may have been the main reason for the town being bombed in World War II. The 2004 estimated population was 58,000. |
