Note: An early style of gem cutting that is thought to have originated in India and to have been brought to Europe by the Venetians. The rose cut is recognizable by its flat bottom and a crown side with triangular facets that come together in a point. It started out as a relatively simple cut, but became more sophisticated over time.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Een vroege stijl van slijpen waarvan wordt gedacht dat deze zijn oorsprong heeft in India en door de Venetianen naar Europa is gebracht. Het roosslijpsel is herkenbaar aan de vlakke onderkant en een kroonzijde met driehoekige facetten die samenkomen in een punt. Het begon als een eenvoudige slijpvorm, maar werd in de loop van de tijd steeds gesofisticeerder. Zie voor specifiekere roosslijpsels de onderliggende termen.
