Note: Refers to the process by which an open fire or a special firing pit is used to prepare, cure, or transform clay or another material by means of heat. It is characterized by the free circulation of oxygen, which results in the oxidation of iron and other components in the material, and a relatively low firing temperature. It differs from firing in a kiln, where the structure of the kiln allows a higher firing temperature to be achieved and the space may be sealed from oxygen.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 指稱以露天生火或運用一個特殊的生火坑洞，以加熱的方式準備、燻製或轉化泥土或其他材料。它的特色為運用氧氣的自由循環流動，以使得材料之中的鐵質或者是其他的成分產生氧化作用，以及相對而言比較低的燃燒溫度。這與在窯爐之中燃燒是截然不同的，窯爐的結構可容許達到比較高的燃燒溫度，亦可將窯爐的空間封閉起來，以阻擋氧氣進入。 |
| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar het proces waarbij klei of een ander materiaal door hitte op een open vuur of in een speciale vuurkuil wordt geprepareerd, behandeld of omgevormd. Wordt gekenmerkt door de vrije circulatie van zuurstof - waardoor het ijzer en andere onderdelen van het materiaal oxideren - en de relatief lage temperatuur. Het verschil met bakken in een oven is dat dit laatste een hogere temperatuur mogelijk maakt en dat de bakruimte kan worden afgesloten voor zuurstof. |
| Spanish ..... Se refiere al proceso por el medio del fuego abierto para preparar, curar, o transformar la arcilla u otro material mediante el calor. Caracterizado por la circulación libre de oxígeno, que termina en la oxidación de hierro y otros componentes en el material, a una temperatura media. La diferencia de encender un horno, donde la estructura del horno permite una temperatura más alta de ser alcanzada y el espacio puede ser sellado por medio del oxígeno. |
