Note: Components of some belts, especially those that formed a part of early medieval dress: rectangular plates placed behind the buckle. These were found on belts that would have included a buckle, a counter plate that was placed opposite the buckle, and sometimes a rectangular back plate placed in the middle of the belt at the back for decoration. |
