Verwijst naar de stroming die zich voornamelijk in het midwesten van Amerika manifesteerde onder architecten, van wie Louis Sullivan en Frank Lloyd Wright de belangrijksten waren, die de neostijlen afwezen en een nieuwe architecturale visie ontwikkelden waarbij de natuurlijke kwaliteiten van een gebied of land in de architectuur tot uitdrukking moesten komen.
