Note: Material comprising the aromatic leaves of several species of trees in the families Lauraceae or Myrtaceae, used for many purposes by humans. Fillets and other head gear made of bay leaves were used in antiquity and other contexts to indicate honor or status. Bay leaves are used as seasoning in cooking. Bay leaves are used in entomology as the active ingredient in killing jars, where vapors kill insects prior to mounting. Bay leaves are also used in cabinets and other contexts to discourage the growth of molds. |

Dutch ..... Materiaal dat bestaat uit de aromatische bladeren van diverse boomsoorten uit de families Lauraceae en Myrtaceae, dat door mensen voor allerlei doeleinden wordt gebruikt. In de oudheid werden hoofdbanden van laurierbladeren gebruikt om eer en status aan te duiden. Laurierbladen worden in de keuken als kruid gebruikt. In de entomologie worden ze gebruikt als het werkzame ingrediƫnt in stikpotten, waarin insecten door middel van damp worden gedood voordat ze worden opgezet. Laurierbladen worden ook in kasten en andere contexten gebruikt om schimmelgroei tegen te gaan. |
