The style first developed in Britain. The term was coined in the "World of Interiors" magazine in the 1980s and has become a registered trademark for a US company.

Een voornamelijk in interieurontwerp gehanteerde stijl die wordt gekenmerkt door Europees of Amerikaans antiek of replica's van antiek die sporen vertonen van slijtage en ouderdom, zoals afgebladderde verflagen en gescheurde en verbleekte of gedempte stoffen. De stijl ontstond in Groot-Brittannië. De term werd in de jaren tachtig van de 20ste eeuw bedacht door het tijdschrift 'World of Interiors' en is inmiddels een geregistreerd handelsmerk van een Amerikaans bedrijf. |
