Note: Style and culture of Siouan people of North Carolina and Virginia. Historically located near the Blue Ridge Mountains prior to European contact, the Sappony moved to the Piedmont region of North Carolina and northern Virginia in the 1700s. Today, the tribe is state recognized by both North Carolina and Virginia, and are known as "Sappony." |
