Note: The process of decorating fabrics by applying a thick paste of dye or pigment. Major methods of textile printing include: block printing (design raised in relief on a flat surface); stencil or screen printing (cutting the design through a flat sheet of paper or metal); roller printing (engraved printing rollers, one for each color, are pressed against the fabric). In each, the dye or pigment is first applied, and then fixed, usually by steaming or heating; at which point excess color is removed by washing.

| Dutch ..... Het proces van het met een dikke pasta van kleurstoffen of pigment decoreren van textiel. De voornaamste textieldrukmethoden zijn: blokdruk (waarin het ontwerp in reliëf uitsteekt op een vlak oppervlak), stencil- of zeefdruk (waarin het ontwerp door een vlakke metalen plaat of vel papier wordt gesneden) en rollerdruk (waarin drukrollers, een voor elke kleur, tegen de stof worden geduwd). In elk van deze methoden wordt de kleurstof of het pigment eerst aangebracht en vervolgens vastgezet, doorgaans door het textiel te stomen of te verhitten. Daarna wordt overtollige verkleuring weggewassen. |
