Note: Box-like, two or three story walk-up apartment buildings typically made of stucco and having sheltered parking at street level. The style was popular in Los Angeles, California in the 1950s and 1960s, and because of their mass proliferation, dingbats have come to be seen as signs of urban blight. In recent times, they have been the subject of aesthetic interest as examples of Mid-Century Modern kitsch, since many have themed names and specialized trim.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 樓高二或三層的盒狀公寓建築，通常以灰泥蓋成，無電梯設備，在路面樓層外附有遮罩式的停車場。此建築風格在西元1950及1960年代的加州洛杉磯甚為流行，由於大量興建，被視為城市衰敗的表徵。由於許多盒式公寓有其主題名稱與特殊裝潢，近期成為美學研究題材，被認為是中世紀摩登風的庸俗作品範例。 |
| Dutch ..... Blokvormig appartementengebouw van twee of drie verdiepingen zonder lift, gewoonlijk bepleisterd en met een overdekte parkeerplaats op de begane grond. Deze gebouwen waren in de jaren vijftig en zestig populair in Los Angeles, en omdat ze zoveel werden gebouwd, zag men ze op zeker moment als symbool van stedelijke verloedering. Later beschouwde men ze als esthetisch interessant en als typische voorbeelden van moderne kitsch uit het midden van de vorige eeuw, want veel dingbats hebben themanamen en specifieke versieringen. |
