Note: Describes the style and culture of the inhabitants of the Bougainville Islands. The people of Bougainville represent human and animal forms in naturalistic proportions and features, however human heads are also constructed in a canine-like style with the jaw protruded outward. Surfaces are often stained black and enhanced with inlaid patterns of red and white pigments. Decorative features in ceremonial structures are well known for demonstrating excellent carving techniques.

| Dutch ..... Beschrijft kunstwerken die zijn vervaardigd door de bewoners van de Bougainville-eilanden. De bevolking van Bougainville creëert menselijke en dierlijke vormen met naturalistische proporties en details, maar soms vertonen de menselijke hoofden ook hondachtige trekken, met een sterk naar voren stekende kaak. Het oppervlak is vaak zwart gevlekt en verfraaid met ingelegde patronen van rode en witte pigmenten. De decoratieve elementen die voor ceremoniële structuren worden gebruikt, zijn vermaard vanwege de hoge technische kwaliteit van het snijwerk. |

El pueblo de Bougainville representa forma humanas y de animales con proporciones y rasgos naturalistas, sin embargo también se construyen cabezas humanas que asemejan cabezas caninas con mandíbulas prominentes abiertas. Las superficies están muchas veces manchadas de negro y realzadas con incrustaciones de diseños con pigmentos rojo o blanco. Son bien conocidas las estructuras ceremoniales que demuestran la excelente calidad técnica por medio de rasgos decorativos. |
