Note: High platforms or terraces built in early China for emperors to offer sacrifices to Heaven. The emperor was able to see far into the distance from the top of the platforms, and so they became a symbol for the mountains. In later centuries, they became a type of structure used in gardens for entertaining.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Hoge platformen of terrassen die in het oude China werden gebouwd voor keizers om offers te brengen aan de hemel. Vanaf het platform kon de keizer ver kijken, en zo werden tai een symbool voor de bergen. In latere eeuwen werd de term gebruikt voor een soort constructie in tuinen die voor amusement kon worden gebruikt.
