Note: Entrance halls or porches through which one enters a Japanese building and is greeted by the host, removes one's shoes, etc. Historically, this term referred only to alcoves found in Zen temple buildings, but now the term is used to refer to any entry alcove. These areas are often decorated with screen paintings.

Additional Notes:
Chinese (traditional) ..... 指日式門廳或門廊,為主人迎接客人、進行脫鞋等事宜之處。在歷史上,該詞僅用於指稱禪宗寺廟建築裡的壁龕,現今則泛指任何在入口內凹入的小室。常使用屏風畫裝飾此區域。 
Dutch ..... Hal of veranda die men passeert bij het binnengaan van een Japans gebouw, waar men wordt begroet door de gastheer of -vrouw en waar men de schoenen kan uitdoen. Vroeger gebruikte men deze term alleen voor alkoven in zenboeddhistische tempels, maar tegenwoordig wordt de term gebruikt voor alle soorten ontvangstruimtes. Ze zijn meestal versierd met schilderingen.
