Te gebruiken voor vierkant getuigde oorlogsschepen uit de 17e tot en met de vroege 19e eeuw, die zwaar met kanonnen waren bewapend en waren bedoeld om te vechten in gevechtsformatie; in de Engelse Koninklijke Marine werden met linieschepen bedoeld oorlogsschepen bewapend met meer dan een minimum aantal vuurwapens, variërend van 30 in de jaren vijftig van de 17e eeuw tot 80 in de jaren veertig de 19e. |
