| Dutch ..... Filmstroming die gangbaar was in Duitsland voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog en die haar hoogtepunt bereikte in de jaren 20 van de 20ste eeuw. De stroming gebruikte vertekening en overdrijving om de fysieke wereld te transformeren in een weerspiegeling van het innerlijke en de innerlijke mens. Plots en thema's van de films waren vaak somber van aard, met de nadruk op lange, duistere schaduwen, onnatuurlijke ruimten in composities, een gestileerde manier van acteren en droomscènes.
