Note: A type of carbon black characterized as a deep, saturated, velvety black color. It is the oldest known black pigment. It is produced by burning oil, usually coal-tar creosote, in shallow pans, in a furnace with the draft regulated to give a heavy smoke cloud.

| Dutch ..... Een diep, verzadigd, fluweelachtig roetzwart. Het is het oudste bekende zwarte pigment. Het wordt vervaardigd door olie, gewoonlijk koolteercreosoot, te verbranden in ondiepe ketels, waarbij de luchtstroom zo wordt geleid dat een zware rookwolk ontstaat. |
