Getty Museum K-12 Teacher Programs

How was a Chinese porcelain bowl transformed in England? What kind of wall light did Marie Antoinette have in her palace? Learn how objects in the Museum's decorative arts collection were made and functioned, why they were collected, and how they have been displayed.

This workshop is suitable for teachers of grades K–12.

This three-day program offers an opportunity to learn about the ancient Roman world through the lens of the Getty Villa's collection and site.

Explore the intersections of art, architecture, history, math, botany, and other subjects through gallery investigations, site tours, discussions, lectures, and hands-on art activities. Then, learn to weave these subjects into memorable learning experiences for your students.

This summer's schedule:
K–6th grade teachers: July 11, 12, and 13, 2012.
6–12th grade teachers: July 18, 19, and 20, 2012.

The program is free. Applications are due April 16, 2012.

Did you know that the sculptors of the ancient Mediterranean painted the eyes, lips, skin, hair, clothing, and accessories of their figures to make them appear more expressive than they seem today? Learn more about painted marbles in this workshop led by antiquities curator Jens Daehner, who discusses the materials and techniques employed by ancient artists and shows you how to trace pigment on the surfaces of Cycladic, Greek, and Roman sculptures.

Admission to the Getty is FREE. Admission to the Getty Villa requires an advance, timed ticket. Parking is $15, but $10 after 5:00 p.m. for Saturday evening hours at the Getty Center and for evening events at both locations.
