Integrate the visual arts into your K–5 language arts curriculum. During this culminating event for the Museum's annual, year-long Art & Language Arts program, elementary teachers will present curricula they designed as participants.

This three-day program offers an opportunity to learn about the ancient Roman world through the lens of the Getty Villa's collection and site. Explore the intersections of art, architecture, history, math, botany, and other subjects through gallery investigations, site tours, discussions, lectures, and hands-on art activities. Then, learn to weave these subjects into memorable learning experiences about the ancient Roman world for your students.
This summer's schedule:
K–6th grade teachers: July 13, 14, and 15, 2011.
6–12th grade teachers: July 6, 7, and 8, 2011.
The program is free. Applications are due May 13, 2011.

Teachers will learn about the architectural concepts associated with the Getty Center and its artworks, join in discussions in the Museum's galleries, and participate in hands-on activities. Attendees will receive classroom materials, art-making activity sheets, and reproductions of artworks.

Re-invigorate your teaching by bringing visual art into your elementary classroom! Art & Language Arts is a free one-year program for K-5 teachers that enhances language arts and visual arts learning.
Participants receive subsidized buses for Getty visits, and credit towards salary points or continuing education units. Teachers must apply in teams of six to 10 from each school.
