Taking a Moment

Getty Onsite Photo Intensive, 2023

In 2023, Unshuttered was represented by sixteen talented and engaged teen photographers from across Los Angeles. Together, they expanded their creativity and technical skills, visited the Getty Department of Photographs and the Museum’s exhibitions for inspiration, and shaped their photography portfolios through supportive collaboration.

Under the theme of Taking a Moment, the photographers explored the innate qualities of capturing a moment that only photography allows, the importance of self-expression and creativity, the advantages of slowing down and being present. This presentation of their photographs illuminates many of these thematic interpretations and celebrates the artists’ abilities and range.
