I just spent a good seven hours wandering the Getty Center today and I have to say I was extremely impressed and moved by this exhibition. The tour guide had an infectious enthusiasm that was hard to resist, and the materials themselves were breathtaking.

Thanks to everyone who brought this wonderful event to the Getty Center. I'm sure I'll be visiting again soon.

Wonderful!

We flew out just to see the exhibit, which was marvelous. This enables me to re-live the visit, and see the manuscripts in even greater detail.

You made my day! I picked up the link as I read today's New York Times online. Great idea and nicely constructed Web site.

I'm not in the habit of writing fan mail, but this has got to be one of the greatest things I've seen. I hyperlinked from the New York Times, and was absolutely blown away. Particularly great were the audio explanations of the paintings and how to interpret them.

Excellent work. I'm buying my ticket to LA this minute! Regards, Lou

Nicely done, re: Internet presentation. But this art is flamboyant Gothic, not Renaissance. What could you have been thinking to mislabel it so? Could multiculturalism have gone so far as to censor the differences between periods of art history, in the same way that it censors the differences among cultures?

The work done by artists in the Netherlands and northern Germany during the late Gothic period (late 14th – early 16th century) is commonly referred to as the Northern Renaissance. These artists were interested in the naturalism developed by artists working to the south in Italy, where the Renaissance was born in the 15th century.

Truly a wonderful and exciting way to learn. The audios and videos were entertaining and informative.
Thank you, J. Paul, for making the Getty Museum possible. I think Mr. Getty would be pleased and thrilled by the presentation. Thanks for a delightful Sunday afternoon spent illuminating the Renaissance!

This exhibition is a wonderful thing to have on the Internet. New technology allows us to see—as freeze-frame, time-lapse, and slo-mo did in the past—more than we ever saw before, especially of these hard-to-see illuminations. And it's a special gift for all who live far from the Getty. This is a perfect example of what museums should be doing. Many thanks.

I'm currently immersed in a book on Renaissance war and keep a magnifying glass nearby. Your Zoom & Explore and the illuminations were made for each other! Absolutely stunning. Thanks for putting it out there for all to enjoy.
