Muhammad Yusuf (Persian painter, active ca. 1636-1666)
|
Note: Muhammad Yusuf was a prolific painter active during the rule of the Safavid kings, Safi (reigned 1629-1642) and 'Abbas II (reigned 1642-1666). In the 1640s he adopted a bolder calligraphic style. This new linear style, a departure from the stylistic ideals of the early 17th century, may have resulted from exposure to the work of his contemporary Muhammad Qasim, with whom he collaborated on several manuscripts, including the Dīvān of Hafiz in Istanbul. |
