Roth, Alfred (Swiss architect, 1903-1998)
|
Note: Alfred Roth studied architecture at the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland, from either 1922 to 1925 or 1926, where he was one of Carl Moser's students. He worked at the studio of Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret in Paris, France, in 1927 or 1927-1928. He directed his own architectural firm in Göteborg, Sweden, from 1928 to 1930. Roth returned to Zurich in 1931 and worked in the Buro der Werkbundsiedlung Neubühl. In 1933 he began to work in private practice with Emil Roth and opened his own private practice in 1939. Roth designed furniture for the Wohnbedarf AG. in 1932 and decorated the model houses and apartments at the Werkbundsiedlung Neubühl in Zurich in 1933. From 1943 to 1957 Roth was editor of the Swiss architectural magazine 'Werk'. He was a professor at the School of Architecture of the George Washington University in St. Louis, United States, from 1949 to ca. 1953. He was a guest professor in the architecture department Of Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Roth was first chairman of the Schweizerischer Werkbund from 1955 to 1964.
