Andrea Pisano (Pisan sculptor, goldsmith, born ca. 1295, died 1348 or 1349)
|
Note: Andrea was born in Pisa, and probably died in Orvieto. He was the son of the Notary Ugolino di Nino and the father of Nino and Tommaso Pisano. In addition to being a goldsmith and sculptor, he was the Master of the Cathedral Works in both Florence and Orvieto, which did not necessarily mean that he was an architect. He is noted for having been influenced by the monumental style of drapery and figures seen in the painting of Giotto, but applying it to relief sculpture. The only documented works by Andrea are the reliefs currently on the bronze doors on the south portal of the Baptistery of Florence. Italian architect and sculptor. |
