Important patron of the arts active in Rome; his large collection of antiquities is now in Naples. Patron of Titian and Vasari; encouraged Giorgio Vasari to write "Lives of the Artists." As Cardinal-Protector of the Jesuits, he funded the building of Il GesĂș.
