Braun, Matyáš Bernard (Czech sculptor, 1684-1738)
|
Note: Baroque sculptor in the style of Bernini whose works include the Vision of Saint Lutgard (1710), and Saint Ivo (1711); both on the Charles Bridge in Prague. He created a series of statues on the grounds of his patron Graf von Sporck's estate of Kuks at Gradlič, including allegorical works and a series of grotesques. Braun participated in the decoration of the Clam-Gallas Palace in Prague (1714-1716), and the Jesuit church of Saint Clement from 1715 to 1721. The quality of Braun's work declined after 1720 due to his reliance on his workshop and apprentices. Bohemian sculptor. |
