Andokides Painter (Attic vase painter, active ca. 530-ca. 515 BCE)
|
Note: Anonymous Greek vase painter named after the potter Andokides, by whom he was employed. He is generally believed to be one of the first practitioners of, and possibly the creator of, the Attic red-figure style. His works survive on fewer than 20 amphorae and cups. A number of his pictures appear on bilingual vases; the black-figure on these vases has been attributed to the Lysippides Painter. The two artist worked in close collaboration and it has also been suggested that they were one and the same person. |
