Record Type: Person
Auguste, Robert-Joseph (French goldsmith and silversmith, 1723-1805)

Note: Auguste is considered one of the best silversmiths during the Louis XIV period. Much of the costly work he did for Louis XIV and Mme de Pompadour has been destroyed; he is best known today for his sophisticated, elegant, and austere table silver made for various royal patrons. In 1788 he was made supplier and manager of the Paris mint. His son Henry apparently took over his silver workshops ca. 1785.
