Note: Solţānīyeh is located several miles away from the Zanjān, the provincial capital. The city was founded in the 13th century by Öljeitü (1220-1316), eighth Ilkhanid (a Mongol dynasty) ruler of Iran. A surviving structure from this period is the mausoleum with a dome that sits on an octagonal brick structure, embellished with blue faience. |
