Note: Bandar-e ʻAbbās lies on the northern shore of Hormuz Bay close to the islands of Qeshm, Larak, and Hormuz. It's population is primarily made of African blacks and Arabs. The port was established by Shāh ʻAbbās I in 1623 CE as replacement for Hormuz city, which was taken over by Portugal in 1514 CE. From 1793, Bandar-e ʻAbbās was leased to rulers of Muscat, but the contract was cancelled in 1868. |
