Note: Arāk is located in the southern mountains of the Markazī province. It was established during the reign of Fathali Shah Qajar (1797-1834) as a military center, but its military status gradually declined, and from the 13th century CE, it has been a major crafts center, particularly ceramics and carpets. Arāk at one point was on the trade route between Tehrān and Baghdad, but currently it has closer relations with nearby cities Qom and Eṣfahān. During World War I the city was occupied by the Russians. |
