Note: Original Roman military settlement, established by Julius Caesar in 59 BCE as a settlement for veteran soldiers; named originally Fluentia due to location between two rivers. Was laid out as an army camp, with the cardo and the decumanus streets intersecting at the present Piazza della Repubblica. It was situated along the Via Cassia, the main route between Rome and the north.
