Note: The small German town of Bad Münster am Stein is located on the Nahe river about three miles south of Bad Kreuznach. It is the site of the ruins of the 12th-century castle of Rheingrafenstein, the residence of the counts of the Rhineland-Palatinate, destroyed by the French in 1689. Nearby are the ruins of the castle of Ebernburg, the birthplace of Franz von Sickingen who led unsuccessfully the Knights' War against the German ecclesiastical princes in the 15th century. The two places of Bad Münster am Stein and Ebernburg were united under one local government in a reorganization achieved between 1969 and 1974. The 2005 estimated population of Bad Münster am Stein was 3,849.
