Note: The city of Delmenhorst is situated on the Delme River in the district of Weser-Ems in the northern German state of Lower Saxony. First mentioned in 1254, the original town developed around a moated castle belonging to the family of the dukes of Oldenburg in the Middle Ages. It received its charter in 1371. In the 19th century it grew rapidly into a major manufacturing center specializing in linoleum, In World War II the Allies captured it in April 1945. The 2004 estimated population was 76,000.
