Note: Town north of Berlin and the site of a Nazi concentration camp. The camp was established in 1936 as a camp for political prisoners, but by 1938, after Kristallnacht, it housed thousands of Jews. The camp was liberated by the Soviets in April of 1945. During its existence, over 140,000 people were imprisoned at Sachsenhausen, with over 30,000 dying there, or being killed by the SS.
