Note: The city of Eisenhüttenstadt in the district of Frankfurt in the eastern German state of Brandenburg is located on the Oder River at the Polish border. It was formed in 1961 by the union of three communities: Fürstenberg, Stalinstadt, and Schönfliess. It soon became one of the chief industrial cities of the area and a major producer of steel and pig iron. It became the eastern terminus of the Oder-Spree-Kanal and an important rail junction. The 2004 estimated population was 38,700.
