Procession of Pope Clement VII and the Emperor Charles V after the coronation at Bologna on the 24th February, MDXXX, [1530]

 
Designed and engraved by Nicolaus Hogenberg (ca. 1500–1539), the scroll comprises 40 prints pasted on a strip of canvas approximately 15 meters long.

The colorful scroll depicts the procession that followed the coronation of Charles V when he was crowned King of Italy and Holy Roman Emperor by Pope Clement VII in the cathedral of Saint Petronius in Bologna on February 24, 1530. The procession includes the emperor and the pope under a canopy decorated with the imperial eagle, as well as a continuous parade of nobility, representatives of the imperial provinces, clerical officials, and military officers in their armor.
