Education
|
 |
Artist Mark Bradford conceived this project especially for K12 teachers. He asked 11 international artists to create art-making activities that present the perspectives of practicing artists. Each activity is presented as a free, downloadable PDF that includes an art-making prompt, an artist biography, and images of the artist and works of art by the artist.
Visit the Open Studio site to see the activities, and watch a video of Bradford introducing the project.

Get a rare look inside the process artists use to create bronze sculpture in the exhibition Foundry to Finish: The Making of a Bronze Sculpture, which describes the steps of the process from modeling to casting and finishing. Explore this exhibition online with students in grades K12, and visit our video gallery to watch a contemporary artist demonstrate bronze-casting techniques.
Connect this exhibition to science with the lesson "Finding Balance." The lesson explores how an artist must consider the weight of materials and the force of gravity to literally balance a sculpture, and provides instruction for students to create their own sculptures.
View the lesson "Finding Balance."

Did you know that works of art at the Getty Museum are often moved to new locations? Before you bring your class to the Getty, make sure all the artworks you want to visit are on view. Here is one change:

On View
Mixing Vessel with Greeks Battling Amazons, known as the Gela Krater, is on loan from the Museo Archeologico di Agrigento. It's on view at the Getty Villa in the Stories of the Trojan War gallery (Gallery 110), where it joins works of art that illustrate Homer's epics, the Iliad and the Odyssey.
