Explore the history of the photojournalistic essay in the exhibition Engaged Observers: Documentary Photography since the Sixties. Projects on view include Philip Jones Griffiths's series Vietnam Inc. and Susan Meiselas's narrative of the revolution in Nicaragua.
Adapt the lesson "Vietnam and the Long-Term Effects of War" to have students in grades 912 examine themes explored by photographers in the exhibition. Students can do additional research online and compare and contrast images of Vietnam by Barbara Gluck with those by Phillip Jones Griffiths.
