Exhibition Tours in Italian
In conjunction with Italian Language Week, the Getty Villa is offering a special one-hour overview of this exhibition featuring a masterpiece of Etruscan art known as the Chimaera of Arezzo. This talk also traces the myth of Bellerophon and the Chimaera over five centuries of classical art. Join a Getty gallery teacher for this special tour in italiano. Free; an event ticket is required.

Master of Myth, Magic, and Monsters
Screenings of Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans celebrate some of the greatest creations by Ray Harryhausen, special effects artist and film producer. See Jason, Medea, Hercules, Pegasus, Perseus, and Medusa, as well as the countless gods, goddesses, demons, and monsters that populate his timeless Technicolor adventure fantasies. Ancient Etruscans and Their Culture
Long considered enigmatic, the Etruscans are now recognized for their innovative architecture and elaborate cult rituals, which exerted a formative influence on early Rome. Join art historian Ann Steinsapir in an exploration of this ancient culture of central Italy. A tour of the exhibition The Chimaera of Arezzo and Etruscan objects in the Museum's permanent collection is included. Course fee $35. Open to 40 participants.

Studio Course

Bronze Sculpture Workshop
Learn the art of lost-wax casting in this three-session workshop complementing the exhibition. Explore sculpting, mold-making, casting, and finishing techniques to create a small relief medallion cast in bronze. Sessions take place at the Getty Villa and the Decker Fine Arts Foundry in North Hollywood. Course fee $215; $195 students (includes materials, foundry tour, and bronze casting fees). Open to 16 participants.

Colloquium

Myth, Allegory, Emblem: The Many Lives of the Chimaera of Arezzo
This two-day colloquium brings together an international group of art historians, archaeologists, and conservators to discuss the latest research on the Chimaera of Arezzo. Topics to be explored include the iconography of Bellerophon and the Chimaera in Greece, South Italy, and Etruria; the archaeological context of the Chimaera and its role in Etruscan religion; technology and conservation history; and the sculpture's reception in Renaissance Florence. Registration fee: $10 Friday, $20 Saturday ($10 students). Advance registration for each day required.
