Manigault, Edward Middleton (Canadian painter, 1887-1922, active in the USA)
|
Note: He was a pioneering artist of the American Modernist movement. After serving as an ambulance driver in World War I for the Canadian Expeditionary Forces, he lived in Los Angeles, then moved to San Francisco. Trying to follow teachings of Hindu mystics, he fasted for months in an attempt to achieve a spiritual vision for his paintings. He died in San Francisco of starvation on September 4, 1922. |
