Costa, Lorenzo (Italian painter, ca. 1537-1583)
|
Note: He was probably trained by his father, and spent most of his career in Mantua, where he is documented painting in1560. His best known works were for the apartments of Guglielmo Gonzaga, Duke of Mantua, in the Corte Nuova and Corte Vecchia of the Palazzo Ducale. He studied in Rome, and brought the Roman style to Mantua. He was younger than his contemporary Lorenzo di Ottavio Costa, and is thus sometimes called "Lorenzo Costa the younger," although they were not father and son (they may have been grandfather and grandson, although any familial relationship is uncertain). |
