Kuttner, Manfred (German painter, 1937-2007)
|
Note: Kuttner first studied at Dresden Art Academy in the former GDR. In the early 1960s, he moved to West Germany and studied at Düsseldorf Academy of Art, where he knew Gerhard Richter, Konrad Lueg and Sigmar Polke. Kuttner's works were non-representational, and employed geometric patterns, collage, and overpainting. He preferred Pelikan’s Plaka paint which had just been marketed in the early 1960s. He used fluorescent colors, to make conventional paintings but also to coat objects, including a piano, bedsprings, and a typewriter. He made at least one film. He withdrew from the art world in the mid-1960s and pursued a more stable career in advertising and graphic design to support his family. |
