Note: Son of Cosimo II of Tuscany and Maria Maddalena of Austria. He was known as a patron of literature, the natural sciences, and the fine arts. He received instruction in painting by Sigismondo Coccapani and in the natural sciences by disciples of Galileo Galilei. |
