Robertson & Beato (Turkish photography studio, established 1853 or 1854, dissolved 1867)
|
Note: Partnership under name "Robertson & Beato" between brother-in-laws James Robertson and Felice Beato was established 1853 or 1854, when Robertson opened a studio in the Péra district of Constantinople. Some photographs from the 1850s were signed "Robertson, Beato and Co.," perhaps implying brother, Antonio Beato, was working for the firm. The firm specialized in subjects from Turkey, Malta, Jerusalem, Damascus, Egypt, the Crimean War; noted for the panoramic photograph format. Worked 1856- 1858 in Malta and the Holy Land in 1857. Felice Beato and Antonio Beato each left the firm ca. 1857, although Robertson retained the trademark "Robertson & Beato." |
