Costa, Waldemar da (Brazilian painter, 1904-1982)
|
Note: Painter connected to artistic groups of the 1930s and 1940s in São Paulo. At the age of six, he moved to Portugal with his family. He studied at the Academia Nacional de Belas Artes of Lisbon and at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes. In 1928, he moved to Paris, where he made contact with vanguard experiments. In 1931, he went back to Brazil and founded the Família Artística Paulista - FAP, together with Rossi Osir and Vittorio Gobis. Until the 1950s he mainly worked with figuration and, from the 1960s onward he started to compose geometrical. |

| Portuguese ..... Pintor ligado aos grupos artísticos atuantes nas décadas de 30 e 40 em São Paulo. Muda-se para Portugal com a família aos seis anos de idade. Estuda na Academia Nacional de Belas Artes de Lisboa e na Escola Superior de Belas Artes. Em 1928 muda-se para Paris, onde convive com experiências de vanguarda. Em 1931 retorna ao Brasil e funda a Família Artística Paulista - FAP, juntamente com Rossi Osir e Vittorio Gobis. Até os anos 50 tem na figuração sua orientação preferencial e a partir dos anos 60 assume compromisso com as construções geométricas. |
