Costa, Waldemar da (Brazilian painter, 1904-1982)

Note: Painter connected to artistic groups of the 1930s and 1940s in São Paulo. At the age of six, he moved to Portugal with his family. He studied at the Academia Nacional de Belas Artes of Lisbon and at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes. In 1928, he moved to Paris, where he made contact with vanguard experiments. In 1931, he went back to Brazil and founded the Família Artística Paulista - FAP, together with Rossi Osir and Vittorio Gobis. Until the 1950s he mainly worked with figuration and, from the 1960s onward he started to compose geometrical.
