Mohamedi, Nasreen (Indian painter and draftsman, 1937-1990 )
|
Note: Born in British India, now Pakistan, her family moved to Bombay in 1944. She later studied at Central Saint Martin’s in London (1954-1957). She returned to Bombay in 1958. Her first solo exhibition was at the Bhulabhai Memorial Institute in Bombay, 1961. She studied at an atelier in Paris from 1961-1963. In the 1960s she traveled in India, Iran, and Turkey. In 1972 she began teaching at the University in Baroda. She exhibited throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including the Third Triennale in New Delhi (1975) and the Festival of India in Britain (1982). She died in Kihim, near Bombay (now Mumbai), 1990. She is known for the non-objective line-based drawings in pen and ink of her mature period. |
